| Gay couple banned from Wal-Mart after dispute over BIC lighters |
[07 Nov 2009|05:35pm] |

This is an updated version of the story that includes corrected content.
NILES — The two Bic multipurpose lighters and a package of smaller lighters Joe Paolucci bought at the Niles Wal-Mart on Aug. 16 cost $15.84.
So how did the lighters end up the centerpiece of a situation that resulted in Paolucci and his gay partner, Thomas Hitchcock, being banned from Wal-Mart, not only in Niles but everywhere? That's the rest of the story.
Paolucci said he and Hitchcock had visited the store often since the two Chicago attorneys — for 13 years, Paolucci was general counsel for the real estate investment company owned by Chicago billionaire Sam Zell — opened a store known simply as Front in downtown Buchanan.
The "high-end modernist gallery/shop," as Paolucci described it, stemmed from an extensive rehabilitation project. He and Hitchcock own investment properties in downtown Buchanan as well, they said, plus a second home near Buchanan that they occupy with two special-needs 11-year-old twin sons they adopted from Romania.
"The kids call us Daddy and Poppa," said Paolucci, who maintains a primary residence with Hitchcock and the boys in Chicago's Lincoln Park area.

| BG fail |
[07 Nov 2009|05:27pm] |
Did they change something with report AFK in battlegrounds? I'm so confused, right before my group capped IBT and went all in, all of a sudden, I was transported back to Shattrath and now I'm flagged as a deserter.
I wasn't afk, in fact, I was running past Galv's bunker when it happened. Ironic, since earlier I was hanging out at Stonehearth Bunker, honor/xp farming while working on my nano novel (I'm a lvl 60 in AV, I never manage to get past Belinda, so usually I end up hanging around waiting for the horde to show up so I can toss my baby heals on people....so I play windowed with my novel in front, watching for action on the screen, and actively PvP when there is stuff to heal) and didn't get reported.
So, is it a certain amount of people reporting you, or can the BG leader just do it by default? I know a guildmate of mine watched the entire Horde team disappear mid-fight in a WSG.
I'm confused.
*edit* so I went to Trade (i know, i know, Trade lolerskates on a teeheetricycle), and apparently there are two ways to get booted from BGs
1. Get reported AFK and do nothing PvPish for one minute 2. Have 6 or more people report you AFK
I guess I could have not done anything for one minute, but it seems highly unlikely...a guildmate suggested people were reporting me afk since I'm a low level just to get me booted. But the BG was almost over, it makes no sense.

Pakistan's fashionistas defy Taliban
By CHRIS BRUMMITT, Associated Press Writer Chris Brummitt, Associated Press Writer – Sat Nov 7, 7:36 am ET KARACHI, Pakistan – Some women strode the catwalk in vicious spiked bracelets and body armor. Others had their heads covered, burqa-style, but with shoulders — and tattoos — exposed. Male models wore long, Islamic robes as well as shorts and sequined T-shirts. As surging militant violence grabs headlines around the world, Pakistan's top designers and models are taking part in the country's first-ever fashion week. While the mix of couture and high-street fashions would not have been out of place in Milan or New York, many designers reflected the turmoil, contradictions and tensions coursing through the society. I can't seem to figure out how to use my crossbow with my rogue. I have trained in xbows and would like keep the one I have equipped the one I have for stats. I would also like to use it to pull with but clicking on the bow, keybinding it, opening up the character pane does nothing.
I've tried Google and no luck there. I have two hunters so I get the main idea. Am I missing something?

| Long time lurker, first time poster... |
[07 Nov 2009|03:14pm] |
So, suppose you've been asked to watch a fourteen year old cousin for the weekend while your aunt is out of state. Your cousin is a decent kid (kinda spoiled), and she seems happy enough to spend the weekend with you. 24 hours go by, and she's bouncing off the walls. "I thought we were gonna go out and do fun stuff together. I thought you'd have time for me. Come on, can't that stuff wait?" That sort of thing. You deal with her as best as you can, but you have other responsibilities and can't give her your undivided attention, so you give her your laptop to play with. Something comes up that you have to deal with urgently, and you leave her alone for half an hour, forty-five minutes at most. When you come back, she's used your paypal account and racked up about $200 worth of purchases on eBay. Now what?
(And no, this isn't really a hypothetical. This happened about, oh, an hour ago now? I have no idea what to do with this kid. Her mother doesn't come back until late Sunday night.)

Dear Shitsters,
I have to take my sister to a concert that is going to be full of scene kids, because she is too shy to do go by herself. I like some of the songs the band has, but overall I am not too pleased. What should I do to pass the time?

| Tribute to Mad Skill.. and beer! |
[07 Nov 2009|12:59pm] |
25ToGC is the only thing my guild is still progressing on achievement-wise (need Insanity) but last tuesday we got Mad Skill.. while our raid leader was really really drunk. XD
Most of us know our leader (Garrosh) is pretty no-nonsense about getting through boss fights as efficiently and trouble-free as possible, so it was pretty great to see him running around drunk as hell through ToGC. XD The best part is we ALMOST got Insanity that night (got Anub to 8% before the tank died with 50 attempts left jksaflafhs).
Some of us were so amused we decided to record our raid. Sadly he mostly sobered up by Twins but it's still kinda funny. You can find our 25ToGC NRB, Jaraxxas, Twins, and Anub'arak kills from that night on youtube. For reference, I'm the big fat moondumbkin (who likes to stand in fire oops lol) and the only girl in vent lololol.

| NEW POLL: Dems Who Oppose Public Option Today Will Lose Obama Voters in 2010 |
[07 Nov 2009|03:59pm] |
Hours before the wavering House Democrats decide whether to vote for health care reform with a public health insurance option, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee is releasing new poll results fresh out of Virgina.
We polled 800 Virginia Democrats and Independents who voted for Obama in 2008 but didn't turn out for Creigh Deeds in 2009. The main finding? A huge majority of these voters thought Deeds "wasn't progressive enough."
Not only that, but many will decide whether to vote in 2010 based on whether or not Democrats pass a public option, and specifically said they were less likely to vote for Deeds after he said he would "opt out" Virginia from the public option.

| GOP Gone Wild |
[07 Nov 2009|02:28pm] |
This morning, the House began consideration of the rule for debate of the House health care bill. As the Democratic Women’s Caucus took to the microphone on the House floor to offer their arguments for how the bill would benefit women, House Republicans — led by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) — repeatedly talked over, screamed, and shouted objections. “I object, I object, I object, I object, I object,” Price interjected as Rep. Lois Capps (D-CA) tried to hold the floor.
In an effort to delay and derail the proceedings, the Republicans continually talked over the Democratic women for half an hour. They sought to prevent the debate by calling for unnecessary “parliamentary inquiries” and requests for “expanding the debate” by an hour.
After being repeatedly interrupted by Republican shouts, Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy (D-OH) observed:
Do I not have the right to be able to continue my sentence without objections that are trying to censor my remarks here on the floor that I have a right to make as a member of this House?
Watch a compilation:
The presiding chair of the House, Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), tried to assuage the Republican raucous, without much success. The debate must be conducted with “a measure of comity and grace and decency,” Dingell urged. “There’s no advantage to be achieved by making all this fuss,” he told the Republicans.
Source wants to know when the GOP Big Tent is going to return humility, decency and honor to Washington.

| The Giant Pumpkin |
[07 Nov 2009|12:29pm] |
|
Every day, we (Animal Place) receive hundreds of pounds of day-old produce donated by two grocery stores. Yesterday, an employee at one notified us that a 60lb pumpkin had failed to sell and did we want it? Um, do pigs love food? Yes!
Abby, sanctuary supervisor and Louie, animal caregiver, took a picture with the giant gourd. And then it was time to abandone the pumpkin to its fate. Enjoy! The pigs and cattle sure did!
